The intuitive art journey is a process of listening, layering, and letting go. My art emerges without a predetermined outcome, allowing intuition to guide every mark, texture, and symbol I make. In this place of expressive freedom, I discover meaning—meaning that is often personal, sometimes spiritual, and never something I could have planned. Instead, meaning reveals itself through the act of creating. The Way of Intuitive Art invites you to explore this creative process with me, entering the spaces between the seen and unseen, the inner and outer, and the personal and universal. Together, we can learn to trust intuition, follow what emerges, and discover meaning through making.
In the collage below, I fashioned an imaginary landscape inspired by the woods behind my childhood home, a place where everything felt alive and enchanted. Little paths, bright flowers, and storybook trees emerged as I worked. Although this creation is not a literal memory, it carries the emotional truth of one. My intuition guided my choices as I reached for papers, colors, textures, and images. I wanted to capture the feeling of this imagined landscape without consciously analyzing my decisions or worrying about where they might lead. As I created, imagination mingled with memory, becoming a way of preserving something I could feel but could not fully explain.
The intuitive art journey invites me to explore memories not as exact representations of the past, but as feelings waiting to be rediscovered. In this collage, I was not trying to recreate a specific place so much as recover a sense of wonder. I had to trust a feeling I could not fully explain, yet somehow recognized. Rather than overthinking my choices, I followed my instincts, gathering images, sketching impressions, and selecting from a treasure trove of papers, colors, and textures. The possibilities were endless, and I allowed my hands to choose without questioning why.
Whimsical birds with swirling feathers and stork-like legs appeared, and I still do not know why. Yet somehow, they captured the wonder of my backyard as I experienced it at five years old. Oversized flowers emerged as well. Nothing like them ever grew there, but they expressed something more important than botanical accuracy. They conveyed the awe I felt while exploring the woods and the intriguing shed nearby. These imaginative elements reminded me that memory is not always about what we saw, but also about how we experienced the world around us.
Surrounding the shed stood a grove of birch and pine trees that always fascinated me. Including them in this imagined landscape felt essential. In my collage, they lean and twist in ways that are clearly “wrong,” yet they feel exactly right. Their unusual shapes express something that a realistic depiction could not. They remind me that intuition is not concerned with accuracy. It is concerned with inner truth.
The intuitive art journey is ultimately about trusting what unfolds, even when I do not understand where the creative process is leading me. Through imagination, memories become more than recollections of places and events. They become opportunities to reconnect with the feelings, wonder, and meaning that remain within us. As I look at this collage, I recognize a place that never existed quite as I have depicted it, yet it feels deeply familiar. It is a landscape shaped by memory, transformed by imagination, and revealed through intuition.
This is what continues to fascinate me about intuitive art. When I let go of expectations and allow myself to explore freely, I discover that the creative process can reveal truths I did not know I was searching for. Sometimes the journey leads not to something new, but to something within us that has been waiting to be rediscovered.
