We can’t change the reality that we experience more and more loss as we age. That means we have to create a space to process our grief. There are things we can do to create this space. I paint to help me with this. But, there are many options for processing grief. Today’s blog will help you find one.

Finding Peace on Your Journey
With peacock feathers, glitter, yarn, tissue and torn papers, I am a child again: creating using whatever I can find before me. This is a place where I can find peace. For me, I’d go as far as saying it’s prayer.
Everything Changes: Take Time for Remembering
What do you remember? Share your memories here or find a voice for them elsewhere. Make a collage, create a scrapbook page, write in a journal or blog here with me. Tell us what you remember before everything started to change here at Journey on Canvas Blog. Everything changes: take time for remembering.
Afraid to Share?
We live in times where we receive a lot of animosity for what we believe. We find ourselves belonging in one group and being rejected by another. Or, we might find people are trying to convert us to their point of view. Every night, before I go to bed, I pray. In the morning, God uses me as best he can. I’m not perfect and I know it. Still, I go out and do my best to share what I believe is true. I do my best to do this without animosity for others. In fact, there is truth in what they share too. Together, we can refine what we believe to find a more polished truth. It’s not just what I share today that makes a difference. It’s what we share together that allows us to go to bed tonight and pray to gain more wisdom. In the morning, we can wake up and try again.
Do Something Brand New: Share Your Story!
We are all on a journey. One day things are on an upswing. The next day we spiral down because of bad news or simply a bad day. Our natural inclination is to share when we’re up and recoil when we’re down. We don’t realize that when things in our lives begin to fall apart that we can do something brand new: share at the bottom of it all.
Going Back: Sharing Your Memories
I like to go back. I like to remember. When I come back to today, I share what I remember. But, the best part is when people join in and make “remembering” a conversation. What do you remember? How can you connect your memories to your journey today?
Half is talent. Half is thick skin.
I know I don’t draw really well. I know there are many artists who blow my work out of the water. Should that stop me? What stops you? Today, consider sharing the roadblocks in your life that stop you from listening to that voice inside you: the voice that nudges you despite all the criticism and negativity that tries to stop you.
Sharing Your Journey Your Way
We have to share our journey our way. That’s honest and there’s no real way around it. You can try to be someone else to please them, but that’s all about their experience. Share what you have seen and where you have been. Share where you are. Share you.
Our Past Shapes Our Journey Today
Our past shapes our journey today. We are not just who we are now. Our entire journey makes us who we are.
Make Time for Your Spiritual Autobiography to Unfold
I’ve become too busy for my spiritual story. It’s true that I’m busier than I’ve been in a long time. I feel the pressure of all the things on my giant list of things to do. I’m afraid that I won’t finish all of these things. Important things are getting squeezed out of my life […]
Too Busy for My Spiritual Autobiography?
I have a new job, and I have my hands full. What do we do when our lives become too busy for our story? My spiritual autobiography once had a voice, but today it’s on the back burner. I believe our spiritual memoir unfolds regardless of whether we dedicate time to sharing it. But, with […]
Keep Your Spiritual Memoir inside Your Personal Journal
No matter how it may seem you are chosen? Our spiritual story can get lost in the challenges and difficulties of life. We don’t feel chosen anymore. We feel lost and forgotten. Writing in a journal, keeping a personal journal, or prayer journal can help us find our way back to the place where life […]
Make “The Good Stuff” of God Part of Your Spiritual Autobiography!
We can put good stuff inside of us. That means that we can choose NOT to put bad stuff inside us too. Bad thoughts, negative beliefs, fear, and depression don’t have to fill up our souls. We can start filling up with the good stuff by choosing to believe in God’s truth about ourselves regardless […]
Keeping Your Memories in Spiritual Journals
I recently made a piece of art about my memories. I like how I can capture my memories on a canvas. It’s a powerful experience for me. I don’t stop there, though. I also use my spiritual journal for keeping memories. I use both words and pictures to remember my past and the present. I […]
Spiritual Autobiography Reflections
I’ve done a lot of paintings of myself in my Joseph Coat. Joseph had his dream coat. Maybe that means it told of his own dreams for his story. Maybe my coat does that, too? I’m reflecting on my own spiritual autobiography today and how my coat is a part of that. It’s a patchwork […]
Spiritual Autobiography on the Road: Traveling with a Spiritual Journal
My spiritual autobiography has taken a new turn. My dad is turning 85 and my mom is turning 80. I try to visit them more often now because I know they don’t have very much time left. It’s a 10 hour drive to get to their home. It’s a challenge, between work and the kids, […]
Throw Away Old Junk with Spiritual Journaling
Believe what is true regardless of what seems to be. Don’t let that old tape, with all those old lies, play over and over again in your head. Replace that thing! I know how fear, negative words, wounds, broken heartedness, sickness, and disease can get that tape rolling inside me and you. That doesn’t mean […]
Spiritual Journal: Journaling for Hope
I have hoped for so many things. I say to God, “But I Had Hoped….” If I could think clearly and have the old places healed, if my damaged parts could be glued back together, if my inclination was to love, if I needed no drugs for my body to work right, if my passion […]
Spiritual Memoir: Change the World
I believe that our silent thoughts, prayers, and petitions can be heard. I have faith that God knows the passion inside our hearts. This doesn’t make any sense in the natural world, but I believe God can hear our hearts. I even think the sound of our hearts is a song in God’s ears. I […]
Thoughts On Spiritual Memoir
Why write a spiritual memoir? Beyond writing about one’s life for popular acclaim, what is the motivation to explore and document the journey? In a fast paced, give me satisfaction NOW society, the invitation to reflect and share about the meanings and motivations for living has great appeal. What connects us all is a desire […]
