Everyone is just swimming along. We don’t really know where the journey will take us, and we just keep on swimming towards “What’s Next.” We do have our past to guide us. Our memories and what’s happening in the “Right Now” can help guide us towards a better tomorrow. When I think about it, I realize that “Tomorrow” is unpredictable, but what I have from “Yesterday” and “Right Now” moors me and steadies me despite the challenging possibilities that lie ahead. My understanding of God used to give me a false security about “Tomorrow.” I anticipated that the future would always be bright. Now, I realize that God is not a magic genie that makes all my “Tomorrows” a slam dunk full of joy. I have no idea what “Tomorrow” will bring. I’m just swimming along with no promises. However, I still have faith, I still have the joys of yesterday and today, and I still have my paints to swim with me as I enter “Tomorrow.” This blog is all about “no promises” and how we find hope despite this reality. We don’t know what lies ahead. We can find hope regardless. If you are like me, creative process can help you on your journey. This is not a false security. It’s a strategy for finding peace in an uncertain world. It’s spiritual, powerful, and it brings peace. Center yourself on your journey through the power of creative expression. Yes, it’s true that everyone is swimming. How you swim will determine whether your waters are tumultuous, choppy, or smooth. Consider finding a creative way to make sense of your journey that strengthens you for whatever lies ahead in “Tomorrow.”

Tears for Dancing, Age 42
The older I get the less I think about what I can get out of this life. Bad things happen here on Earth and no one is immune. I see my parents suffering, I watch terrible things happen to my friends and I see catastrophic events that create hell on Earth. Revelation 21:4 promises that someday God will wipe every tear from our eyes and the old order of things will pass away. I’m beginning to think that this promise isn’t so far away: it’s just waiting for us at the next stop. Maybe when we die we trade our tears for dancing and enter Heaven. Until then, I'm going to paint, I'm going to write, and I'm going to share when I find hope in this life. That's why I'm here at Journey on Canvas.
