I know I don't draw really well. I know there are many artists who blow my work out of the water. Should that stop me? What stops you? Today, consider sharing the roadblocks in your life that stop you from listening to that voice inside you: the voice that nudges you despite all the criticism and negativity that tries to stop you.
I've had many teachers tell me I have a knack with color. Isn't that what painting is about anyway? And seriously, even if I am a "Half Talent" at best (but painting brings me peace and joy) shouldn't I create and share. Maybe other people, regardless of their "talent" will create, share, find peace and joy along with me! What more could be the point of it all? We make it all about talent. Creating is only for the "artists" is the message even inside elementary art classrooms. How sad is that. You might say my Orange Vase is ugly. Well, I had a fabulous time making it and someone else is going to make art today because I shared. Whether it's beautiful or ugly is not the point. That's what I think. How about you?

Orange Vase, Age 47

Half is talent. Half is thick skin.

Tears for Dancing, Age 42

The older I get the less I think about what I can get out of this life. Bad things happen here on Earth and no one is immune. I see my parents suffering, I watch terrible things happen to my friends and I see catastrophic events that create hell on Earth. Revelation 21:4 promises that someday God will wipe every tear from our eyes and the old order of things will pass away. I’m beginning to think that this promise isn’t so far away: it’s just waiting for us at the next stop. Maybe when we die we trade our tears for dancing and enter Heaven. Until then, I'm going to paint, I'm going to write, and I'm going to share when I find hope in this life. That's why I'm here at Journey on Canvas.
